In the beginning ...
Homeopathy is based on a number of natural laws, the most important being
the 'Law of Similars'.
This principal means that a medicine which produces certain symptoms when given to healthy people in a test situation, will ease those same symptoms when we come across them in illness.
Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) physician, medical researcher, linguist and chemist who was homeopathy's founder, discovered that quinine bark - a conventional medicine
for malaria, produced malarial fevers when taken by someone who was not ill.
Building on that discovery, he went on to experiment with other substances in the same way and came to the conclusion that treating 'like-with-like' was an effective way of stimulating the body's self-healing powers. What Hahnemann rediscovered 200 years ago was known to Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician and Father of Modern Medicine .
Homeopathy is one of the five most widely sought forms of complementary medicine.
It recognises that symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person and that it is the patient who needs treatment - not the disease.
Homeopathic remedies are not drugs. They are made from a variety of natural substances that are made into homeopathic remedies by a process of repeated dilution and vibration which is called 'Potentisation'. The process magnifies the healing power of the substance, but any toxicity is completely removed. This makes homeopathic remedies non-addictive and free from side-effects so that they can be used safely even in babies and the elderly.
The substances used to make homeopathic remedies come from a variety of sources, the majority being plants or minerals. Homeopathic remedies differ from herbal remedies in that they contain no pharmacologically active ingredients.
Homeopathic treatment can produce lasting results because it can get to the root of the problem, treating the cause of disease at its source. As the remedies increase our vitality we
feel better, more like our old selves and we are steadily freed from the symptoms of our illness.
